Carson's letter of the week at school was F. Yesteday driving home, we were talking about words that start with F. He said 3 and then I said 3. At one point I was trying to get him to say Friend. I asked him what is Carter. And he said "my buddy." Some how we have brainwashed Carson into thinking Carter is his best buddy, but he is not his friend! I just hope he doesn't tell Carter he isn't his friend.
As we were pulling onto our street (back to the F talk) I pointed out that grandma's dog Fuzzy Face started with F. He thought for a second and then said we could talk about S and then we could say grandmas dog SSSSSS Cinnamon. (He loves that dog) We then had to talk about why Cinnamon starts with C and not S. The english language sure makes it hard on moms!

It makes it hard for English teachers also. I'm very proud of my boy. Tell him that Cinnamon, Fuzzy Face, Grandma, and Poppy send their love.
Grandma
That soft c, as it's known in our elementary school at least, will kill you every time! Gh is our newest sound challenge. Why does it sound like ph? It makes no sense. Have a great weekend.
OK, to clarify, I guess there are words where gh sounds like "gh" as in ghost. But, in words like cough and laugh, it's ph. When you start teaching a child to read, you realize all the mixed up crazy rules in the English language! It's amazing any of us are literate. It's also amazing how it just clicks one day and it goes from work for kids to very easy.
Too funny! :)
c and s are throwing us too--- so how did you explain it?
