Macie's Better

Thankfully Macie is back to her old self. I think she did have Roseola. Carson had it at about this time of year too. My poor mother in law got to see both cases. It is much easier to leave her when she is happy. We will go back to trying milk today and see how she does. Since our computer has died, I don't have pictures, but I will try to get some up soon.!

Sitting around

We are still spending lots of time sitting around. We have had some forward steps with mom. If you haven't heard, you can visit the caringbridge site. Macie seems to be feeling a little better today. She didn't have a fever this morning, and she was eating better than she was yesterday. I am going home after the 2:30 visitation. I think the kids need some time. Carson has Awanas tonight. Hopefully he is going to get there. I don't know if he is suppose to know a verse, but I guess he can catch up next week. Tomorrow he goes back to school. He will be very excited to see his teachers and friends. Honestly, it feels like 3 months since his Christmas party rather than 3 weeks. I am planning to take Macie to her music class tomorrow before I come down here too. It really is a challenge for me to figure out how to balance time here and time at home with the kids.

To add flames to the fire we have been going through, our computer seems to be on its last leg. It was clickng at me yesterday morning. I was worried about it, so I had Jeff buy a flash drive (or zip drive?) to save my checkbook and picures for me. He didn't get them saved before he came up here yesterday, and we could not get it to come on last night. Fortunately, after we let it rest over night, it came on this morning. We were able to back everything up. I guess we will need to find a geek to come look at it.

New sight

We decided to open a caringbridge sight to keep people informed about mom. We felt it would be a better way so we can keep this one more upbeat for our family. I will still update her about the kiddo and maybe how I am dealing. The link is on the side or you can click here!

Update one

I stayed home from the hospital today to take Macie to the doctor. She has a fever and red throat, but it isn't strep. They think it is a viral thing, but it could just be her teeth. I am hoping she will nap today and feel better (she is screaming now after being in bed for 30 minutes). My brother in law called and Ann Bennett is home throwing up today. Pray for them too. The accident happened on her 6th birthday and her party is planned for tomorrow. She is not happy that Rene' is here.

Rene', Jeff and Randy talked to the neurologist this morning. He certainly does not have a good bed side manor, but he did answer their questions. In addition it sounds like the nurses were helping to make sure he talked to us. That makes me feel better about the people who are dealing with her most. He said the blood in the brain is not in one place. It is in the crevices of the brain, but it is not an active bleed. He thinks it might be a little better, but it has not gotten any worse. He thinks she is making more purposeful responses. Because her pressure has stayed down, they are going to take the monitor out of her head. It might be today or tomorrow depending on when they get around to it. He said if she doesn't wake up in 10 days then we will know it will probably take a long time. He said it is often difficult for head trauma patients to open their eyes. We are hopeful it will happen sooner rather than later. The doctor also said he thinks the lack of movement we are seeing on the left side could be brain related and not something else. We have been hoping it is just tenderness and her favoring the right side.

They expect her to have to deal with a lot of rehab, but Jeff said he heard him say to expect a full recovery. So, we are still waiting. We are told that stimulating her will be good. If you would like to send a card you can send it to me or the hospital. I think you are suppose to put her name (Elizabeth Hunt) and room number (SICU 263), In addition, the hospital offers e-cards that the chaplin will deliver to us daily. We will read all of them to her and let her know all the people praying for her.

We are hanging in there. We will let you know if we need anything or hear anything else.

Day 2

Thanks for your prayers for mom. There really has not been much change today. They did remove the neck collar because they ruled out spinal injury. That makes her look a little better. They found fractures in the floor of her eye socket today, so they are going to consult a plastic surgeon hopefully tomorrow. We did not get to speak with the neurologist today. After waiting and asking for him all day, he came and did not get us from the waiting area. He is the only one who will tell us what the cat scan says. We were not at all happy about this. Tomorrow we are on a mission to get in touch with him. The nurse said the doctor said that she was getting better, but we again don't know what that means.

Basically we are just waiting for her to wake up. Randy (her husband), his daughter Marti, and Mitzi saw the car today. They brought pictures for us to see, and it is amazing she is in the condition she is. We really don't know much, but hopefully we will find something out.

On a Macie note, she had whole milk today and seems to have done fine. She is running a little fever that we hope is just teething, but you can pray for that too. I would rather not add a sick baby to the list of thigs to worry about!

If you are reading this and have not heard, my mom was in a serious car accident today. She is in the ICU at a hospital down town. She has not regained consciousness, and she is on a ventilator. We will not know much until she wakes up, but she has shown several positive signs. Thanks for your prayers.

Happy New Year

Just wanted to say Happy New Year. We spent yesterday taking down Christmas. I will spend today planning for Macie's birthday. Can you believe that baby will be a year old in just a couple weeks?
