Macie has really taken off with her development this summer. She is talking so much and trying all sorts of new things. She will jump into the pool alone, swim to the ladder, climb out, and start the whole process over again. I need to get a video to show you. But, with all she is learning, it makes me say all the time "when could Carson...." So this is a post with all Carson can do right now. If you think blogging is just braggin on your kids I would skip this post!
Carson has always been good with numbers. He can probably count well past 1000. He can also count by 10s. With a little help he can count by 5s. He can do some addition and subtraction. Usually he has to think a little, but he can figure it out. He thinks mathematically. For example, the other day he was taking some track to Carter's house to play. He has 6 risers and 9 ascending pieces. He looks at me and says "Mommy what is 9+6" I helped him use his fingers to figure it out. When Jeff came home that day he said "Daddy did you know that 9+6=15?"
Carson knows all of his letters and most of the sounds they make. He like to try to figure out how to spell things. He also likes to read words. We were at the pizza place the other night and he looks at a beer sign and says "I know what that word is tap." He might have said on tap, but I can not remember exactly.
Carson is reading a little. We checked the Dick and Jane book out from the library a couple weeks ago. He has almost read the entire thing. It worries me a little that I am working with him on reading. I have no clue how to teach reading. I am afraid he will get to school and have issues because of my teaching. The video is Carson reading a little to my mom. You can see how it is very slow and how he gets distracted, but I think he does well for a 4 year old. Now I just have to figure out what other books to get him to read next.
Carson is swimming well. It is great for me when we are at the pool. He requires almost no supervision. Of course I always have my eye on him. But, I can go to the little pool with Macie and watch from a distance. Or, I can easily ask a freind to keep an eye on him for a second while I do something.
Naps are a thing of the past. Every now and then he will go to sleep, but we pay for it at night. He will be awake in his bed until 11pm. Then he will be super grumpy the next day. It is nice that we know we can take him somewhere at night if we make him nap.
Carson loves to play with trains and cars. He likes to watch Super Why and pretend he is Alphapig. He likes riding his bike (with training wheels). He likes unbuckle his carseat and Macie's. He is very good about only doing it when the car is parked. He likes to turn the house alarm off. As a matter of fact he has a fit if you don't let him. He loves him momma, but he is a daddy's boy. He always wants daddy to do things for him if Jeff is around.
He is a very nice little guy with a very tender heart. He is a thinker. He asks good questions and ofter just pulls random information for you. He is growing up so quickly. Jeff and I pray all the time, that he will grow up to be a Godly man.
One last funny story. Yesterday we were leaving the gym when Carson tells me "Mommy, Ia m allergic to yellow jackets." I asked is he knew what that meant. He said "no, I'm just allergic." He is scared to death of them so maybe he knows something we do not.

The Bob books are really good at this point. I'll try to remember to take them to CO for you. Or, we'll hold them captive and get you to come here! And, I'd bet the way you're teaching him math might be a bigger issue than the way you're teaching him reading. My kids use their fingers to add in a really different way than makes sense to me. But, either way, he's such a bright little guy. Give him a NeNe hug.
Tell Carson that his Grandma is very proud of his reading ability. I wouldn't worry about your methods - the most important thing is the result - a child who can read to learn.
