Here is what the closet looked like this morning.

Progress
On January 2nd, I was sitting down at the computer to post a New Years Resolution post. I was interrupted by a call from Randy telling me Mom had been in an accident. Of course I had no idea, at the time what exactly that would mean for our lives. I spent the next several months visiting the hospital and not thinking about the organization I had planned for 2008. Well almost 9 months later, I finally started to get things organized in our house. My first project was Macie's room. This mostly meant cleaning out her closet. It had almost all the clothes she has ever owed as well as clothes my sister has handed down that are way too big. There were also some baby items we are no longer using and just a bunch of junk. It took several hours while the kids were at school, but I am finished. Of course I now have lots of stuff to move to the basement from the guest room.
Here is the half way point. There were probably 100 extra hangers in her closet. They are all laying on the floor here.
The finished product. I know, she has way too many clothes. I tried to put all the summer clothes in the back. I think she will still be able to wear some of her dresses again next year. One of the hardest things about organizing the kids clothes is having to pack away everything they have outgrown. They have so many outfits I have loved and I hate that they can not wear them anymore.
This is what Macie thought of her organized clothes.
But, this is who she gave credit for the work. (Not really, I just like the picture of her kissing her dada)
Next up is probably Carson's room. But, I really need him to try some things on for me. He will not be happy about it. This summer he has been wearing some size 2 shirts and shorts. I think 3 years is all I am going to get our of them, so I can at least pack those up.

Wow! I know how hard this is, and girls seem even harder than boys. Those dresses that are long one year can sometimes make it 3 years. You certainly can't do that with many of the boys' clothes. Ann Bennett's closet is on my list soon, but I've got to do some paperwork stuff first. Yuck! I'm very impressed.
Funny that I did the exact same thing yesterday. I've been good about purging his clothes and putting them in bins in the attic throughout his life. But, I couldn't stand the toys anymore. Target actually has some wire closet shelves on sale for $15 that I bought to help organize his toys. It is SO much better. Almost all his toys are in his room now in bins on the shelves. The plan is to rotate the bins into the living room, putting them back every night. We'll see how it goes. But I sure do love that the toys are accessible but out of sight. I have to admit I have closet envy. Macie's closet is huge with nice wide doors. Poor Bryce has a tiny closet with a tiny door. The pitfall of an old house.
Wow---I love that cleaned out feeling after doing something like that!
I'm really hoping C can wear some of her summer clothes next year. We have so many cute things that she just wore a time or two. Of course, she has very few fall and winter things--so she might be wearing sundresses all winer!
Amy, You should see Carson's closet. I would love to get someone like California Closets come in and do something with all of our. We have great space, but it is not the best use of it. Macie's big doors cause a problem with wall space. I might end up putting something else on them so I don't have to account for the door swinging open!
Good luck with the toys. They are on my list too. But, I am not looking forward to dealing with them.
Way to go Sandy... that's at the top of my list too... One day, when I'm not exhausted from this nap transition and battle. That picture of Macie is so cute - she looks like such a big girl - and what a sweet picture of her and Jeff!
looks great! i did that a few weeks ago with jacob's closet. everything that is too small or too big is in big sterlite boxes in his closet.
my friend diane had pocket doors put in her bathroom - maybe that would help??
