Carson update

Carson is doing fairly well after surgery today. He had his tonsils and adenoids out this morning. We were very proud of how brave he was with the entire thing. We had to be there at 6:45. Macie went to the Morrows to hang out until school started and the rest of us headed to the hospital. Carson was quiet, but he did not act like he was worried.

Watching tv before the nurses came in to check in him.
We had about a little over an hour to hang out in our room before they took him back. The only time he was scared was when the anesthesiologist came in to talk to us. But, when the nurse came and drove him away on his bed he was fine. We had a friend who was taken back in a wagon. I was actually glad Carson went in the bed. He was comfortable there, and I think he would have freaked out if we had moved him.

Hanging out waiting for our turn.

The doctor came back quickly and said it all went well. His tonsils were huge like they thought. Jeff said Carson got them from him. The doctor then (jokingly) tried to get Jeff to go on back and get his out. A little while later, they brought Carson back to the room. We were waiting for him in the hall, but he was doing great. Once he got to the room, we had a little trouble. They said he had been burping some and he probably swallowed some air. Well, a few minutes later he was throwing up. Thankfully, he was aware enough to tell me and the nurse could get us a container. At that point he had not had anything to eat or drink so it was just blood and mucus. But, after he drank, that came up too. He could not keep anything down until they gave him the anti nausea medication. At one point he was asking to go home, then he threw up again and said "I'm too sick to go anywhere." He was so pitiful. But, he also told me "It didn't even hurt to get my tonsils out." He did not like it when they took the tape off his arm and the IV out. It looks like the tape irritates him like it does me. He has a bunch of red spots including up by his eyes.

Things have been mostly calm since we got home. As the pain medication wears off, he is in a lot of pain. He doesn't want to drink anything and just whines. Thankfully, we can usually give him the medication within a short period and it works fast. He has had 4 Popsicles, 3 servings of ice cream, a Gogurt, and a little to drink. Here are a couple of pictures at home.

We are keeping him up until 9 for his next dose of medicine then putting him to bed and hoping it goes well. I am going to set the clock to give him a drink and medicine when it wears off. I am just hoping he sleeps other than that.

Not to leave Macie out, here she is in her new favorite hang out. She lies on the top shelf and reaches over to get a book to read then throws it on the floor. And I wonder why my house is a mess!

Funny, that is what Macie was doing at our house this morning. She just kept bringing Cole book after book, after book. He finally had to fake sleep to get her to stop!! I'm glad Carson is doing well. We'll talk to you in the morning.

I'm glad to hear that the surgery went well. I'm praying for a quick recovery! I absolutely LOVE the picture of Macie in the bookshelf. It's so something Izzy will/would do!! She loves to throw everything off this tote by my desk to climb and sit on!

We've been praying for you guys - glad you are home and Carson is healing. And Macie - that's so funny (and somewhat familiar).
